Robert Kennedy Jr. endorses Paul Feiner

Read the letter here Robert Kennedy Jr. Endorses Paul Feiner

I was pleased to receive a letter from Robert Kennedy, Jr stating that he is happy to learn that I “am running for re-election as Greenburgh Town Supervisor.”

Robert Kennedy endorsed my candidacy because of my strong environmental record. Others have or plan to endorse my re-election campaign because they are pleased with other aspects of my record:

  • My leadership trying to save the Community Hospital at Dobbs Ferry.
  • My prudent fiscal management. The town’s bond rating has gone up 3 times during my tenure –to the highest rating in town history. We have not had a tax increase in two years.
  • Our ability to attract major companies. Regeneron recently expanded their bio-med company. Dannon has located their national headquarters across from Town Hall. Madison Square Garden has a training facility for the NY Knicks, Rangers, Liberty teams.
  • My accessibility — I continue to maintain office hours inside supermarkets. Residents can always call me or stop by at Town Hall, with no appointment. I listen to people and want to help enhance people’s quality of life.
  • The leadership I have provided the town with after the recent flood at E Hartsdale Ave. I’ve been on the avenue daily, helping businesses cut through red tape and re-open. I’m working with the business community to come up with short term and long term solutions to this flooding crisis.
  • Maintaining the highest standards - I put the taxpayers first. I give back part of my salary if I don’t meet goals established for the town. I refuse a town car. I do not seek reimbursement for gas or other expenses I’m entitled to.
  • My leadership fighting for cable TV competition. Greenburgh was Westchester’s first locality to have cable competition between Verizon and Cablevision.

If I am re-elected as Town Supervisor I promise to work hard to keep our town together. I promise that we will ease the tensions between the villages and unincorporated Greenburgh and that there will be fairness. We will work hard to create affordable housing, to keep taxes affordable, to make sure that our town continues to be a safe place to live and work and to provide young people with after school opportunities. The job of Town Supervisor is a problem solving job. I have proved that the town has been run efficiently and competently. So much more needs to be done. I am proud of my past record. I’m enthusiastic about the future.

Your support is important to me. So is your advice.

Sincerely,

Paul Feiner

Greenburgh Town Supervisor

Summer 2007

DEAR FRIENDS:

Paul Feiner is an accomplished public servant. We support Paul because of his passionate commitment to issues that will better the lives of all Greenburgh and village residents. Paul has always been a leader for progressive causes in our town:
SAVING COMMUNITY HOSPITAL AT DOBBS FERRY

  • Paul has led the effort to keep the hospital open by working closely with the leadership of the hospital, other elected officials, and Greenburgh residents to lobby the state.

HELPING FLOOD VICTIMS

  • Organized a town-wide study of the causes of the damage and potential solutions
  • Provided aid for affected merchants,
  • Found volunteers to house families affected by flooding who needed temporary shelter,
  • Planning street fairs and jazz concerts for East Hartsdale Avenue to revitalize the area.

SMART FISCAL MANAGEMENT

  • Zero tax increases for two consecutive years
  • Moody’s Financial Services praised the town’s “solid fiscal management;” Standard & Poor’s noted the Town’s “strong financial operations”

MAINTAINING GREENBURGH’S ENVIRONMENT

  • Increased parkland from 200 acres to 600 acres
  • Constructing a new dog park at East Rumbrook Park, increasing walking trails at town parks and building a children’s garden at Hart’s Brook Preserve
  • Greenburgh has the first municipal energy conservation coordinator in the region

MAKING HOUSING AFFORDABLE

  • Turned foreclosed properties into affordable housing
  • Working for an affordable housing complex for volunteer firefighters and ambulance corps workers.

BRINGING CORPORATIONS TO GREENBURGH

  • The stable environment fostered by Paul’s management skills has attracted major companies to Greenburgh, increasing the tax base and easing the tax burden on residents. Regeneron, Dannon Yogurt (national headquarters) and MSG’s training facilities (NY Knicks, Rangers) are all in Greenburgh.

COMMITMENT TO PERFORMANCE

  • Paul puts taxpayers first. He is the only elected official who gives back part of his salary if he fails to reach yearly goals established for the town.
  • Paul gave back his town car — he does not use a municipal vehicle, nor does he request reimbursement for car expenses or other expenses he is entitled to. He loves his job.

We strongly believe in the dedication and competence of Paul Feiner, our Town Supervisor. We want Paul to remain in office to ensure that Greenburgh is at the forefront of progressive causes. Please remember to vote! The Democratic primary is Tuesday, September 18th. The election is November 6th. This year we’ll be working harder than ever to defeat the political establishment that writer Michael D’Andry in The Westchester Crusader asserted ‘wants to dump someone who “invented non partisan government” in Greenburgh’.

Campaigns cost money. We need your help — now more than ever.

We hope we can count on you. Without your financial help or volunteer assistance we can lose this region’s most innovative and hard working public servant.

Sincerely,

Carlos Cardenas, Hartsdale

Faith Evans, Hastings

Allyson Felix, Irvington

Storm Field, Irvington

Michael Piedimonte, Tarrytown

Richard Garfunkel, North Greenburgh

Iris McLee, Fairview

Randy Klipstein, Dobbs Ferry

Excerpt from the Westchester Crusader on Paul’s campaign

From Page Eight of the Westchester Crusader - April 12, 2007

While Yorktown deals with finding new leadership this November, Westchester’s largest Town, Greenburgh, with a heavy Democratic majority of voters, has an interesting political battle shaping up with the Democratic Town Supervisor Paul Feiner facing a Democratic Primary waged by not one but two fellow Democrats: Bill Greenawalt, and the local Town Democratic Leader.

Among so many ironies about the above opposition to Mr Feiner is the fact that Feiner, a multi-term incumbent and former County Legislator, practically invented the notion of non-partisan reformist politics in Westchester with his famous card table and chairs mobile constituent outreach efforts at local supermarkets. Say what you will, but it’s a definite “Anything Goes” moment when a reformer like Paul Feiner is thought to be old hat by his fellow Democrats!

1feiner.jpgRe: Announcing my Candidacy for Re-election

Today local governments are expected to carry a much larger share of the national financial burden. Indeed, economic times have changed dramatically in the past few years and recent events and the war in Iraq have contributed greatly toward reshaping our personal views on just about every aspect of our lives.

Included on everyone’s lists, no doubt, are voters’ changing expectations of their local government officials. I cannot agree more! Throughout my 16 years of experience as your Town Supervisor, I have heard loud and clear from the many people I serve daily.

They no longer want to hear the usual political rhetoric filled with empty promises but rather want to know that their elected officials are capable of making business savvy decisions on their behalf. In the new economy that we live in today, I fully recognize that many of our residents are TAXED to the MAX!

That is why I am confident that your next Town Supervisor for Greenburgh must be an experienced innovator that knows how to stretch tax payers’ funds far beyond their par value. He or she can no longer be a member of the ‘old way of thinking’, where raising taxes is the only tool for funding new projects.

For the last 16 years, I have demonstrated my leadership in negotiating numerous projects for our Town that have saved our taxpayers millions of dollars over the years. With this proven experience, I am confident that I can continue to guide our town forward in a fiscally responsible manner.

I respect and recognize your efforts as a hard working taxpayer. I don’t take your support or vote for granted but rather accept it as an inspiration to work harder and smarter for our Town. To continue to do so, I need your support! - not just financial support, but also your spare time working as a campaign volunteer.

I pledge to you, as I have done year after year, to keep our Town on a sound financial course that you and I can be proud of. I ask you to personally join me today by committing time and/or funds to our campaign. I appreciate your generous support.

Thank you again for the privilege of serving you and our wonderful Town of Greenburgh!

Respectfully yours,
